The QCA (now QCDA) has published a guide to effective practice in eAssessment (see http://www.qcda.gov.uk/13702.aspx). Section 2.4 directly addresses roles & responsibilities for e-testing. Good background reading for this session.
There has also been some discussion in the British Standards Institute IST/43 Committee (Learning Education and Training) about developing a Best Practices British Standard based on the QCA work. Adam Cooper chairs the group and would be very interested to hear from anyone who would support this or be interested in participating. Adam is based at the University of Bolton.

The VLE can be used by academics 'under the radar' for high stakes assessment, without central support actually knowing what is going on. This has prompted the following draft policy, which is currently being discussed at York, which places the onus on course leaders to address contingency measures if they are planning to use the VLE in this way. I would welcome the opportunity to see howe other HEIs are tackling this issue.

The UK Regulatory and Awarding Bodies in the compulsory schooling space produced the following 'guide' for centres which might be a useful starting point for developing practical guidelines. The roles and responsibilities section is not unlike David's reference to 'hidden team' and 'front of house' partnerships.
To review the guide for yourself follow this link: http://www.efutures.org/docs/guide.pdf Although I am sure there are some differences there must also be many similarities and in the same way that the 'Dundee Policy' has been adopted as a blueprint this document could serve as a template for practical guidelines. Hi everyone, I will be facilitating this parallel session. Firstly thanks to Richard for posting up the link to the QCA guide. Section two will also be useful reading before hand as that identifies roles and responsibilities. Key questions that I would like to put forward for consideration during this session are:
- who do we need to produce guidance for? (ie what groups of staff - (and students?)) - what guidance does each group need? - what form should this take? - how should this be integrated with the delivery of summative assessment? (ie responsibilities) Across the two parallel sessions I hope we can share experiences and from those come up with some good practical ideas which can be made available via this site. Martin |

Does your institution have a policy for e-assessment similar to the University of Dundee's?
Is there a need to develop a specific policy for e-assessment or should this simply be addressed by an overarching assessment policy? We would welcome your opinion and discussions on this area |

Are we intending for the link to the Doodle questionnaire to be sited on this Wetpaint site when it it available to delegates, since we originally agreed to include it as a link on the UCISA pre-conference email? Based on Richard's email today it looks like we'll be issuing the Wetpaint site link to delegates ahead of time, so hopefully they'll access the questionnaire via this method. We could still include it on the email but it might cause unnecessary duplication.
What do colleagues think? Christine |
